Welcome to American Hydroplane
| Power boat racing in the United States had its formal beginnings in 1903 when the American Power Boat Association was organized. Part of A.P.B.A.'s organization is its affiliation with U.I.M., Union Internationale Motonautique, the world governing body of power boat racing. This affiliation promotes the recognition and standards for race boat classes globally. Today, both UIM affiliated and non-affiliated race groups use the UIM standard as a baseline for developing their own class standards in power boat racing. | |||
| Today, race boat classes range in size and power from remote control 1/8th scale model hydroplanes to 6000lb Unlimited class hydroplanes powered by piston driven turbo-Allison and helicopter turbine engines pushing up to 3000 horse power and speeds over 200 mph. | |||
| American Hydroplane's goal is to present articles, photo's and resources giving its readers a full and historical view of American Hydroplane Racing's past, present and future. | |||
